Lone Pine, CA
Absolute favorite one street towns. There’s such a feeling when you hit Lone Pine. Situated at the base of Mt. Whitney it eludes a sense of time gone by, that remains part of its quintessential charm.
Dinner
Mt. Whitney Restaurant - You only have a few options in town, but they do a great burger and all the rest of it. The inside of the restaurant also has some fun old western movie memorabilia on the wall from all the movies they’ve filmed over in the Alabama Hills at the base of Mt. Whitney over the years.
Breakfast
Not for nothing… but a quick Egg McMuffin & coffee from the McDonalds is also just as good.
Drinks
Jake’s Saloon - This is a MUST.
Where to stay
The Dow Villa Motel - Don’t stay in the old part, even if you might be tempted. The location is right in town & it’s got a funky charm.
Activities
Alabama Hills - It’s a fun easy drive through some cool rocks at the base of Mt. Whitney. You can look up the geology if you’re into it, but if you grab breakfast to go, it’s an easy one to explore and get as close to the mountain without actually having to hike it. There are some fun movie scene spots you can look for if you’re into it.
